When we moved into our house, we pretty much had a plan for almost every room, but I have to be honest, that awkward front sitting formal living room… we didn’t have a plan! The previous owners had couches and a TV, but we knew we wanted the living room to be on the other side that has the fireplace and is open to the kitchen. We knew that if it was used like a formal living room, it would never actually get used. And for the longest time, it was honestly just a place to store all our boxes once we had opened in the packages and gosh it was really unsightly. But because the room had carpet in it, after some debate, we decided to turn it into a kid’s play room! The caveats are that it is the first room you see when you walk in, so it might be messy, but hey, we have 2 young kids, it’s expected! So we had to get over that fear. We do have another playroom in the basement but we were finding that the kid’s didn’t love to be down there by themselves, so thus we knew we needed a place to store toys and allow the kids to play on the main floor.
So with the help of Birch Lane Kids, we turned this room into a play room with a loft bed (used for a reading nook), bench for sitting and storage, baskets, rug, book case, lamp, and a homework table and chair. Of course, I have to give props to my friend Jill of Hot Pink Style for helping me with the styling of this room!! You guys… if you follow my Instagram stories, you know that my house is NEVER ever this neat, but of course for these photos it was! 🙂
I am SO obsessed with how it turned out and the kids absolutely LOVE this space!! Birch Lane Kids seriously has some quality and classic finds at really great prices! If you are looking to redo or add decor to kid’s bedrooms or playrooms, you should definitely check them out! This space is functional, has great storage options, and just so many fun little different areas. The only thing missing is just some more art on the walls – more to come! 🙂
